You don't have to have any of the tests, however, it is important to understand the purpose of all tests is so that you can make informed decisions.
The sonographer will tell you the sex of your baby if it is possible and you wish to know.
However, we are unable to offer a further scan if we cannot see clearly.
If the result indicates a high risk, a midwife from the MDAU will contact you by phone.
If you have other children that you would like to bring into the scan room, please inform the Sonographer.
They should be cared for in the waiting room by a friend/relative and the Sonographer may allow them in at the end of the scan.
If your pregnancy is too far advanced for combined screening or we are unable to measure the nuchal translucency due to the baby’s position at the time of the scan or your increased body mass index (BMI), you will be offered the quadruple test.
This involves taking a blood sample from you, measuring four hormones and combining these with your age and other factors to estimate the risk of you having a baby affected with Down’s syndrome.
